Solar

A poem for soaking up the sun
1

Welcome back to the Palace in Time.

Because the sun is shining and I'm able to sit outside and do work in the sunshine, I thought I would choose this poem called “Solar” for my Friday feature this week, as we come close to wrapping up National Poetry Month. Next Friday I will share one of my favorite poems from this exercise this month.

I have loved going through the book Regeneration by

and responding to the different entries on different subjects, and I'm learning so much as I go along.

I highly recommend this book as an encyclopedia of ways that we can solve the climate crisis in one generation. It's really inspiring. I've been having so much fun responding in a creative way to Paul Hawken’s words.

Solar

The long light of mid-morning lands
on the office rug. My Westies can

be found flattened, on a circuit
following the sun as it cuts

a course across the sky, light
in my kitchen, then light

in my living room, then light
on the deck until there’s light

no more. In darkness, they lean
their bodies on either side of me,

and give off another kind of energy.
Watch as buttercups and daisies

lean back, look up, and spin
their heads to the source and grin.

If all of existence already knows this,
what on earth is the matter with us?

I hope you have a beautiful weekend and get a chance to enjoy the budding and bursting of everything that is green, especially if you are in Ohio and any places north of the 42nd latitude line. It seems like life is coming back.

It's very good, and it feels glorious to be back in the sunshine and to see the re-greening happening.

I'm always appalled that it's actually happening again. We actually are having green again.

Isn't it amazing that this happens?

I always question, is this year going to be the year where nothing turns green?

And here it is.

It's coming.

New life.

It's fabulous.

All right, my friends, find your way into the palace in time of your own making this weekend.

I hope you can carve out space for peace and rest and joy and delight in your life. May you find awe and wonder in your ordinary world.
