Thank you, Sarah. Your soul-searching and words as a result remind me that I’m not alone. When I read, “Which of the three passions or longings—acceptance, significance, or security—resonates most with you?” it made me a little sad because they are all kinda up there. They are so intertwined. But I also feel the joy of how much God has changed me over these last several years. On a daily basis, I know a little more that I am accepted, significant and secure in Him. I walk taller, not in a haughty way but in a loved way that hopefully helps others to see Jesus’s beautiful reflection.
Keep up your good work, dear Sarah. I appreciate it and you. 💚
I agree 100% - we definitely have all three of these longings, and I think they can be more intense during different seasons of our lives, too! Thank God he keeps gently reminding us that he is all we need… even if it doesn’t always feel like it. ❤️
I think sometimes we struggle with each of these core longings, yes connected with our growing up years, but also in current real time by wanting to be accepted for who we are by those who are supposed to love us. The feeling, thinking or realization that someone doesn’t accept one for who one is, but rather for what that someone wants one to be can be painful. There is a saving grace for that pain or core longing, and that is simply that God does indeed accept us or love us totally for who we are, warts and all, now as well as in the growing up years.
Acceptance is love. Security is the knowing one is loved.
I think perhaps significance can be a two street in that one can go both ways in realizing one’s importance in being but also recognizing one’s insignificance in this cosmic world we live in. This core longing is sometimes wanting to be significant but also wanting to blend in without any fanfare. This strikes me as ego versus humility.

Thank you for a very thought provoking post. Gave me much to think about. I enjoy your writings very much even if I don’t tell you so.

Absolutely! I think we all need these three things and sometimes one or two are “louder” than others, esp. depending on seasons of life too.
